Dale Oliver

Professor

Dr. Dale Oliver is Interim Chair of the Department of Computer Science and a Professor of Mathematics at California Polytechnic State University, Humboldt. Over three decades, he has taught more than 30 distinct courses and mentored hundreds of future K-12 teachers of mathematics. He has also served in several leadership roles, including department chair, external program reviewer and project evaluator, university ombudsperson, associate dean and dean of the College of Natural Resources and Sciences. His scholarly and creative activities are focused on the preparation and professional development of teachers. Supported by state and national granting agencies, he has worked directly with K-16 teachers to apply research-informed effective practice in STEM classrooms. The goal of this work has often been to encourage active learning, open mindsets, and inclusive pedagogies. His ongoing interest is to improve STEM education at all levels, especially implementing policies and practices that support inclusive and equitable undergraduate STEM education for all.
